There appeared to be more stones on top of the boulder that the spring was coming from. As I walked around, surveying the whole scene I saw what appeared to be roughly cut stone steps leading up the back of the boulder.

The meowing was definitely coming from the top of the boulder, so apprehensively, I climbed the steps. I was astonished by what I found on top.

The stones I had seen from down below were actually some sort of an altar and resting on the center of the alter was a book. The cries of my cat seemed to be emanating from the book itself. Nervously I approached the alter.

The book looked very old with its well-worn leather cover.

"Meow"

I gently lifted the cover and saw the first page on a strange type of parchment. The page was handwritten and difficult to read, but appeared to be in french.

"Meow", the cries continued from somewhere beneath the book.

I lifted the book up to see if there was some sort of crevice in the stone below it that Lucy might be in. The stone surface was smooth and completely intact. The meowing seemed to be coming from the book itself.

I leafed through the pages. The first thirty pages were handwritten in french but there were plenty of more pages after that. The next hundred or so pages were also handwritten, but in a much different style which looked more like german. They were all in a very unusual parchment that was similar on each page, but with slightly different variations in color and texture. Then I received a horrifying shock.
