Flower of the Pawpaw Tree: Asimina triloba
photographed at Spring Mill State Park

The pawpaw tree grows only in North America, and is more common south of us in the Mississippi Valley. The showy, reddish-purple flowers appear as the leaves begin to unfold in spring. By fall the tree will bear the pawpaw fruit which people have been picking up and putting in their pockets for centuries.
