St. Meinrad Archabbey
Our other stop in Spencer County, was Saint Meinrad Archabbey. This magnificent site is one of only two archabbeys in the U.S. and one of seven in the world. It was founded by the Benedictine monks in 1854, and is open to the public for prayer with the monks, and self-guided or guided tours. They receive all guests as Christ, and welcome visitors. The peaceful grounds and stunning cathedral reminded us of an old European castle. We would highlight this as a Do Not Miss place to visit! <see our Spencer County pages> St. Meinrad was again, off the Scenic Route a few miles, so we now return to Route 66. <click to see more>
