Southern Indiana Wildflower Walks

Shooting Star: Dodecatheon Meadia
Photographed at Spring Mill State Park

This spectacular white shooting star flower dangles 6 to 20” above its rosette of leaves on the ground. In this photo you can see the single, leafless flower stalk. The shooting star flower, which can also be pink or purple, is found throughout Indiana on rocky slopes and cliff edges of woods. This was near a cluster of others near the trail through Donaldson’s Woods.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this month’s woodlands walk!
